University of Maine Budget May Cause Class Cuts 

A report outlining a series of potential changes designed to reduce UMaine’s academic program budget was released on Wednesday.The proposed cuts would reduce the budget by more than $12,000,000 in a span of three years.The changes would cut 80 faculty positions, reduce the number of majors from 86 to 70, and reduce the number of masters degrees from 64 to 58.Some of the changes call for the merger of multiple departments, while others call for the elimination of degree programs for music, theatre, three engineering degrees, multiple foreign languages, and multiple forestry associated degrees.To view the full report, you can find it on UMaine’s website at
