Orrington Remembers Late Fire Chief

For 41 years Leslie ” Les ” Grover was a member of the fire department in Orrington.24 Of those were as Chief.Now his helmet and boots are sitting in a memorial to him outside the building.Grover passed away on Saturday morning at his home in Orrington at the age of 77.He started as a volunteer fire fighter in 1960, and in 1977 he became the Chief until he retired in 2001.The memorial to Grover will stay outside the fire house until his funeral services on Friday morning.” The fire department is busting at the seams to give Les the best funeral possible there’s a huge amount of respect for this man here in this station and not only is this a very sad time for the Grover Family but an incredibly sad time for the Orrington Fire Department,” said Current Orrington Fire Chief Michael Spencer. ” Most of the members that I have have served for Les or knew Les in one way or another.”The funeral service will be held Friday at 10:00am at the East Orrington Congregational Church. There will be a reception at the church after his burial in Marston Cemetary.
