Helping with Health Care Costs

With the recent talk surrounding the high cost of health care in this country, three friends in Bangor decided to see what they could do to help some local families pay their bills.Their idea stemmed from seeing the outpouring of support after the earthquake in Haiti.”So many people in our country are suffering with medical bills, or hunger, or homlessness and I was thinking we can send all this money to another country,” said Brian Keezer “Why can’t we help out our own people?”So Keezer and two friends Doug Stuart and Ryan Russell formed New Empire Apparel. They are going to design T-shirts and sell them, any profits they make will be donated to help with the cost of health care.”With 50 shirts we can donate like almost $500 to help a family in need,” said Keezer. “So it’s maybe a shirt to one person but to the person receiving the help it’s huge.””It’s gonna help somebody more than you could ever imagine, like you’d think it’s fifteen dollars to buy a shirt that’s not going to help anyone,” said Russell. “But they add up and it counts and it’s going to help the person that we’re helping right now more than you could ever think.”Their first family in need has a son who at the age of four was diagnosed with CML Leukemia which they say is very rare among children.”It’s definitely worth it,” said Stuart. “I don’t think we’ve had any real snags along the way so far, I’m sure we’ll hit some bumps along the way but I think in the end it’s totally worth it to help out other people who aren’t as fortunate as we are.”This is the first step for New Empire Apparel, but they don’t plan on stopping here according to Russell. “I was thinking we’ll sell the fifty shirts, we’ll donate it, it was a job well done, but from the response I’ve seen so far, it looks like it’s going to be more shirts, more helping people, more of an impact on peoples lives which is great.””We’re just three simple guys from Bangor, Maine making t-shirts trying to help people out,” said Stuart. If you’d like more information or would like to order one of the T-Shirts you can visit their website at
