Peace Groups Host “Bring War Dollars Home” Event

Local peace activists continue to ask leaders in Washington to redirect war funds back home.Friday, on the seventh anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq, they met at the Peace and Justice center in Bangor. They say money spent on conflicts overseas would be better spent to meet needs here at home. They’re holding what they’re calling a “teach-in” this weekend and plan to spread their message in other ways as well.”One of the things we’ll be doing shortly is going around to the local communities, knocking on doors, speaking with people and leaving a flyer on their doorknob to tell them just how much our occupation of Afghanistan is costing them in tax dollars,” says Ron Warner, with Veterans for Peace. The teach-in is Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Bangor. It goes from one to five.
