Disaster Aid

Governor Baldacci wants the president to declare a disaster for five counties in Maine.A bad storm hit Southern Maine with more than eight inches of rain and punishing winds, knocking out power to 150,000 homes and businesses. In his letter to President Obama, the governor wrote that Maine has verified more than $2.3 million in weather-related damage to public infrastructure. If granted, the federal government would reimburse towns, counties and the state for much of the costs incurred from the storm that hit Cumberland, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and York counties.
