Local Celebrities Read to Area Kids

You might have seen a local celebrity at the Bangor Mall this weekend where kids turned out to listen as members of the community read aloud from children’s books. The Book Blast was part of the Kid-Gits program, a program for kids and adults, with events all year long. Officials say about 30 to 40 kids show up during each event.Firefighters, local celebrities, and children’s role models were there to share a love of reading. “A love of reading starts early they’ve proved it many times,” Said Jason Johnson, Bangor Fire Department’s education officer. “The second reason for us is also to let students and children see the friendly face of fire fighters so they can find a friend so to speak.”There was a raffle after the reading.Among those reading those children was our very own WABI TV5 meteorologist Jared Plushnick who shared a book about Sponge-Bob Square Pants with the children.
