March 12, 2010 – UMass Lowell vs Maine – Men’s Ice Hockey

The last few weeks have not been the most pleasant for the Maine Men’s Hockey team. Losers of their last three games at home entering tonight, not to mention the dilema of their goaltending situation. With regular starter Scott Darling suspended, it would be Dave Wilson in goal tonight for the Black Bears as they took on UMass-Lowell in the first round of the Hockey East playoffs.Wilson making his first start in a playoff game since his freshman season. He played well, making 19 saves. Here’s one of them on Michael Scheu in the first period.Maine got on the board first. Five minutes into the game, off the turnover, Mark Nemec scores his first collegiate goal and the Black Bears go up one nothing. However, at the end of the first, an innocent little play. Jeremy Dehner in the corner, throws it in front and the puck goes off Jeff Dimmen’s skate and bounces in, tying the game at one going into the intermission. It was 1-1 going into the third and with 13 minutes left, Captain Ben Holmstrom scored for Lowell to give them the 2-1 lead and that’s how it would end. Maine will need to win their next two games to keep their season alive.
