UMaine Releases a Statement on Scott Darling’s Behalf Regarding His Suspension

The hockey season for Scott Darling is likely over. Last week Head Coach Tim Whitehead suspended Darling indefinitely for violating team rules. A few hours ago we received a statement from Maine released on behalf of Darling about his suspension. It reads:”I’ll be away from the team for a while as I deal with personal issues. I understand the reasons for my suspension and accept responsibility for my actions.” Darling says.”I apologize to my teammates, coaches and our fans and I will work hard to return to the program when Coach Whitehead decides it is appropriate. I am thankful for the support I have received, and I am determined to learn from this situation and return ready to contribute in a significant way.”Earlier today, our own Tim Throckmorton caught up with Coach Whitehead where he addressed the Darling situation as well as what the team plans to do with the goalie position.Tim Whitehead – Maine Head Coach”Scott has been suspended for violating team rules and that’s pretty much how we’re gonna leave it now and not get into any specifics publicly.”And with that the Black Bears move into the post season with out the goalie that is 15-6-3 this season for the Black Bears. Senior Dave Wilson and freshman Shawn Sirman will get their chance under fire.Tim Whitehead”Both David and Sean have had good outings in the second half of the year. They also had some tough outings. I thought David performed exceptionally well last weekend in relief and I thought he had a real good weekend. He would have the upper hand right now but Sean has shown on several occasions that he can lead us to victory so we are definitely looking at both goalies this week and we’ll make an announcement on gamenight on Friday.”Maine plays a best of three series with Lowell starting on Friday. We will have the Saturday game for you on the CW. If the series goes to a third game on Sunday, we will also televise that game on the CW. All games this weekend are at 7:00.
