Lee Academy Grads Face Off in NCAA D3 Women’s Tournament 

This weekend kicks off the division three women’s basketball tournament. Its been a great year for the game in the state and as Prescott Rossi tells us, Maine’s success has bred a lot of familiarity.Five schools from Maine are in the 64-team tournament in Division 3 Women’s hoops. Two of them face off against each other in the first round. Some of their players have a very close background.”This Friday’s matchup between Colby and Husson in the NCAA tournament will have an extra special meaning for three players.Shelby Bradford – Husson Forward”Its just a great year to go to the national tournament.”Amanda Gifford and Shelby Bradford of Husson and Aarika Ritchie of Colby all played together at Lee Academy.Aarika Ritchie – Colby Guard”I think its pretty exciting to play against them and hopefully have a few Lee fans come down to the game.”Even in college they’ve remained friends.Aarika Ritchie – Colby Guard”We’ve encouraged each other on throughout the conference playoffs and throughout the season.”But their friendship will not interfere come tipoff.Shelby Bradford – Husson Forward”I’m competitive but not like the scary competitive so I think a friendly ‘hello’ and then on to the game.”And they don’t expect their friendship to change after the game.Amanda Gifford – Husson Guard”Either way, whoever wins, it’ll still be a good friendship and both of us will have respect for the winning team.”That game on Friday between Colby and Husson will be held at Colby College with the tipoff set for 7:00.
