University of Maine Members Safe After Earthquake in Chile 

Four members of a climate change research study group from the University of Maine who are studying in Chile are all safe tonight after the devastating earthquake over the weekend according to a university spokesmen.A University of Maine official tells TV5 the two professors, Andrei Kurbatov and Paul Mayewsky, along with their two grad students have phoned their families to tell them they are safe. The State Department is urging Americans to avoid nonessential travel to Chile. U.S. citizens in Chile are being asked to contact family and friends in the United States by phone, Internet or cell-phone text messaging. Those without such access are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
