Maine Hockey Loses Two Players to Injury

U-Maine kicked off the new year with a 4-2 win over Merrimack. However, the win did come at a price. Two of Maine’s top players this season will miss the next few games due to injury. During Maine’s 4-2 win over Merrimack, goalie Scott Darling sustained a left leg injury on this play in the third period. Darling stayed in the game but will miss at least the next two weeks.Tim Whitehead…”I’m proud of Scottie, but there is just no way he can go this weekend and we’re going to keep him out of the exhibitions. He won’t be ready for that. So we’re hoping Vermont.”With Darling out, Maine now turns to Dave Wilson and Scott Sirman to start in goal.Tim Whitehead…”We’ll decide after thursdays practice but I’ve actually been very pleased with both Sean Sirman and Dave Wilson this week. They’ll be ready.”Just 25 seconds after Darling’s injury, junior Robby Dee got injured blocking a shot and had to leave the game.Tim Whitehead…”It turns out he has a slight fracture in his foot which unfortunately will keep him out at least three weeks. Both of those kids have been playing great so we’ll miss them both obvisously.”Not only have Darling and Dee played well, but the whole team has been playing great lately. Unbeaten in their last nine games, the Black Bears try to go for double digits when they play at Boston College on friday.Scott Darling…”Everyone’s happy, good mentality in the locker room. It’s fun when you’re winning, fun when you’re doing good, everyone’s one the same page and we’re just going to keep it going this weekend when we head to BC.”From Orono, Prescott Rossi, WABI TV 5 Sports.
