Wrongful Death Suit Filed in Whitefield Case

The parents of a Whitefield teen killed by a Waldoboro reserve police officer have filed a wrongful death suit against the town and the officer.State prosecutors cleared Zachary Curtis of wrongdoing in the shooting of Gregori Jackson during a 2007 traffic stop.Police say Jackson attacked Curtis, then ran off into the woods.Curtis chased him and the two struggled, with Curtis shooting Jackson five times.Jackson’s parents claim Curtis used excessive force. Curtis resigned from the police department last year. Two years ago the attorney general’s office investigated and concluded that Curtis believed the teen was threatening him with deadly force, and Curtis needed to use the same force to protect himself. The law says those two conditions must be met to justify a shooting.
