Skowhegan Death Ruled a Homicide 

SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) – Authorities say the Christmas Eve deathof a man in Skowhegan, Maine, has been ruled a homicide, and awoman who rented the apartment in which his body was found is beingcharged with murder. Spokesman Steve McCausland from the Maine Department of PublicSafety says an autopsy indicates the victim, 63-year-old RichardHowe of Troy, was stabbed to death. McCausland says 45-year-old Karen McCaul of Skowhegan is beingcharged with murder, but there has been no court appearance becauseshe has been hospitalized. McCausland declined to talk about whyshe’s in the hospital. Howe’s body was found by Skowhegan police in McCaul’s apartmentafter she alerted authorities Thursday afternoon. McCausland says the two knew each other, but the nature of theirrelationship is unclear.
