Bangor Police say they’ve solved a string of burglaries on the city’s west side with the arrest of a 38-year-old man from Bangor. Police say Peter McCaffrey is responsible for stealing hundreds of dollars worth items, including a handgun and bullets.Police arrested McCaffrey on Bower Street last night. He’s charged with six counts of burglary and three counts of attempted burglary. So far police have recovered a handgun, bullets, cameras, other electronics and keepsakes.Police say the break in the case came when McCaffrey tried to steal from an apartment on Ohio Street last night. We’re told the renter came home, chased McCaffrey to the street and called out to another person walking by to help. Sargeant Paul Edwards says, “So together the victim of this attempted burglary and this unknown civilian witness, who remains anonymous, apprehended and held on to Peter McCaffrey, a 38 year old man from Bangor, until police arrived.”Police have already identified many of the owners of the stolen property. But they say some of the items were sold, traded or given away. McCaffrey remains in the Penobscot County Jail. He’s expected to make his first court appearance tomorrow.
