Fire Destroys Hay Barn in Mount Vernon 

Firefighters say they’re not sure what started a fire that burned down a hay barn in Mount Vernon. Crews were called to the North Road about 4:30 this morning after a neighbor spotted the fire. Eight departments helped fight the flames, which took about eight hours to contain. The assistant chief in Mount Vernon says windy conditions today didn’t help the battle.The barn that burned housed hay, horses and farm equipment. The horses escaped and were not hurt.
