Penobscot Indian Nation Veterans Ceremony

This ceremony marks the first time an Native American Head of Nation has received the “US Army Freedom Team Salute.” The salute is a military program established to recognize Army veterans and the supporters of today’s soldiers. Penobscot Indian Chief Kirk Francis received this salute for his continuing support. He says his tribe and others have a long history in the American Military.”More of this history needs to be out there,” says Kirk. “We like to think we played a huge role in how this country was formed, and as we sit here today we have tribal members in Iraq and Afghanistan that we must also acknowledge.” Four Army veterans from the Penobscot Indian Nation were also honored.
