Central High School and Mike & Mike Team Up For Kids

Students at Central High School in Corinth are helping make Christmas a little brighter for kids who may have otherwise gone without gifts this year. Kendrah Bitgood and Kendra Caruso are both seniors at Central and have both been part of the “Christmas Is For Kids” campaign for the past 4 years. “Each advisory group, which is pretty much like a home room,” explains Bitgood, “we get assigned a kid and we assign a present for them and then on Christmas morning, they get to open up presents. It’s for kids who are unable to have presents.”The cost is about $3 per student, but the end result is priceless. “It says a lot about our school I think and I like coming from a school like that,” says Caruso. “It makes me feel wonderful that kids are going to be happy on Christmas,” adds Bitgood.Radio personalities Mike Dow and Mike Elliot from Kiss 94.5 were on hand to entertain the students and to help distribute the gifts as part of the “Christmas Is For Kids” campaign. “One of the most heart warming things that we witness every year is the outpouring of generosity, particularly here at Central High School,” says Elliot, “it’s an amazing 6 years in a row here.” “We’re able to see one at a time, those grades come out and put those gifts in the middle of the floor,” says Dow, “it’s one of those amazing sights. It wouldn’t be Christmas for us unless we were able to come here first.”With just one day left in the campaign, the folks here say there’s still a lot of work to do. “In fact, we still have over 300 children on our website,, that do not have a sponsor yet, so we encourage people to log on and sponsor a child,” says Elliot. Mike Dow says these students should serve as an inspiration to their community. “As we told Mrs, Garland here at Central High School, we hope that what they’ve done inspires others to do the same and help some less fortunate children.”
