Bangor Shops Compete for Best Holiday Display

Snowmen and jingle bells have been popping up in shop windows in Bangor recently. It’s a competition for who has the best display.By next week, one store will have bragging rights.”I love them, it’s great. I love this time of year, the windows are full of stuff, it’s really festive,” says Jesse Groening, who was walking downtown. There are roaring fires, nutcrackers and gifts aplenty. Shop windows in downtown Bangor are getting festive and shop owners are getting creative.”A lot of people try to do a theme around what their business is, what their clientele likes, and so you’ll see different displays that align with the stores themselves,” says downtown coordinator, Shirar Patterson. The storefront window contest is in its second year, put on by the Bangor Center Corporation. Patterson says it makes downtown shoppers happy.”People are excited about the holiday season, excited to shop in these independent shops, eat at these great restaurants downtown, and so when they see the displays it just adds an element of comfort to downtown,” she says.”They’re great. It’s good for downtown to bring people downtown and shop, here,” says Bangor resident, Amy Damboise.Last year, Rebecca’s on Main Street took the crown. This year, it’s anyone’s game.”This one looks nice, and that one over there is pretty good,” Groening says. “There’s a lot of friendly competition. Some of the business owners are determined to win this year and unseat last year’s winner,” Patterson says.Judges will choose an overall winner Monday– who will get one thousand dollars to put toward advertising. There’s also a “People’s Choice” category. You can vote, online.”So we’re really looking forward to having people come out and pick their favorite store front, and go to our website, and vote for their favorite.”
