Firefighters Called Back to Scene In Carmel

Firefighters managed to save a building in Carmel last night, twice.Crews were called to the scene on the Hampden road just before 6 o’clock Thursday evening. They found flames shooting out of the back on one side of the building. At first they thought it was a barn, but it turns out the building had been converted into two apartment buildings.Firefighters worked for hours to make sure all the hot spots were put out.And the road was closed for some time as they fought the fire.In the beginning it was the quick work of the firefighters that kept the flames from spreading. “We’ve held it into one side,” Said Carmel Fire chief Mike Azevedo. “We’re going to have smoke and water damage throughout the building but it’s by far not a total loss. So, we had a good stop here with the crews that are here.”At a little before midnight crews were called back out to the scene for a flare up.And they saved the house again, most of the damage was contained to the roof. They cleared the scene again at about 3:15 Friday morning. Two people were home in one of the apartments they made it out safely, but a dog is missing. The Red Cross has been called in to help the family displaced by the fire.
