Firefighters managed to save a building from burning to the ground in Carmel Thursday night. Crews were called to the scene on the Hampden Road just before 6:00 PM. They found flames shooting out of the back on one side of the building. At first they thought it was a barn, but it turns out, the building had been converted into two apartment buildings.Carmel Fire Chief, Mike Azevedo says they worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading. “We’ve held it into one side. We’re going to have smoke and water damage throughout the building but it’s by far not a total loss. So, we had a good stop here with the crews that are here.”Two people were home in one of the apartments. They made it out safely, but a dog is missing.Firefighters worked for hours to make sure all the hot spots were put out. The road was closed for some time. The Red Cross has been called in to help the family displaced by the fire.
