Trial of an Eddington Man Continues

Testimony continued today in the trial of an Eddington man, accused of stabbing his then estranged wife and her date.Ryan Witmer has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. The state says Witmer forced his way into the home, where his now ex-wife was watching a movie with the man last June. The man was stabbed eleven times in the back and Witmer’s ex-wife was cut on her arms. Witmer later turned the knife on himself.During cross-examination of the 38-year-old woman Tuesday, the recording of her 911 call was played.Witmer’s defense attorney wanted the call played, claiming there were inconsistencies in what she had originally told the police and what she was saying on the stand. The state focused today on emails between witmer and his ex-wife, which indicated she wanted to work out a friendly divorce and visitation rights for their daughter. The trial is expected to continue Wednesday.
