It’s a centennial celebration for a Boy Scout Troop from Brewer.Boy Scouts both current and past got together at Camp Roosevelt in Eddington to mark a major milestone for Troop #1.Not only is the troop 100 years old Sunday, but also it’s believed to be the first Boy Scout troop formed in the United States, meeting at the Brewer Congregational Church.Among those at the party today, Don Fendler. He survived a harrowing time in the woods as a child and wrote the book “Lost on a Mountain in Maine”.The centennial celebration has been two years in the making and the scouts say they’re proud to be a part of history.Troop Master Rodney Hanson says, “Some of the boys more so than others because they’re history buffs, as I am. I’m a big history buff. So I’m quite excited about it myself. They understand that a group than can last 100 years – it’s gotta be a pretty good group.”Today’s Troop #1 has about a dozen members. They joined previous members for a spaghetti supper, and entertainment from the newly formed Troop #1 band. Members of the Brewer Congregational Church were also on hand for the celebration.
