Disaster Funding

Governor Baldacci requested the President to declare a major disaster for Franklin, Hancock, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Somerset, Waldo and Washington Counties as a result of heavy rain, hail, damaging winds, flooding, erosion and landslides which impacted the State during the time period of June 18 through July 8. Preliminary damage assessments estimate public damage in these counties to total more than $2.5 million. Federal assistance will help impacted communities and the State fully recover from that damage.Additionally, a request from Robert McAleer, Director of the Maine Emergency Management Agency, was sent to request a preliminary damage assessment for Piscataquis County. Piscataquis County could therefore potentially be added as an eligible county if a declaration is received.
