Flags Raised at Bucksport Veterans Memorial

The town of Bucksport is honoring its veterans this Memorial Day weekend. They held a special flag-raising ceremony at the future site of the town’s Veterans Memorial.Flagpoles were just installed on site, and Sunday, members of the American Legion gathered to fly the flags for the first time.Organizer Richard Bowden says they couldn’t have picked a better time to salute the veterans from Bucksport, and around the state and nation.<"each flag has a military insignia on it, plus the merchant marines and we just thought that this was a good time to put the flags up and have each flag flying for memorial day to have them memorialize the veterans that have paid the ultimate price.">Folks can now purchase pavers with a veteran’s name listed on them…they’ll eventually be placed at the site.Bowden says his group needs about another 25 to 30 thousand dollars to build the actual memorial. He’s hopeful that it will be completed by next Memorial Day.
