Free Fishing Weekend

For the second day in a row, Maine is

allowing people to fish for free on the state’s waterways.

Valentine’s weekend has been designated as Family Fishing Days.

It’s a promotion by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife

designed to encourage more people to try their hand at ice fishing.

The department says the event is open to anyone except those

whose license has been revoked or suspended. Commissioner Danny

Martin says it’s the perfect opportunity for adults to introduce

their children to fishing.

This weekend is the first of two free fishing weekends offered

this year. The second will be on May 30-31, the weekend after

Memorial Day.
