Public hearings on Maine’s upcoming
two-year budget are scheduled to begin (at 9 a.m.) Monday. The
Appropriations Committee will review the $6.1 billion spending plan
line-by-line during the next few weeks.
House Speaker Hannah Pingree says the budget calls for some very
difficult cuts to nearly every aspect of state government.
The North Haven Democrat says that as lawmakers go through the
budget process, she wants to be certain that Maine’s most
vulnerable citizens are protected and that any federal aid is used
to its fullest extent possible to speed economic recovery.
Pingree says there was strong bipartisan cooperation when the
