FairPoint Scam

FairPoint is investigating reports of people posing as FairPoint representatives contacting customers by e-mail asking for their passwords. The company said it does not make a practice of asking for that sort of information, and that customers should not respond to the e-mails.

The warning was issued as FairPoint continues to fix problems with e-mail accounts that arose when FairPoint took control of Verizon Communications’ telephone and Internet service in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

According to FairPoint, the problems may not be totally resolved until early next week, and that the company is still getting more than 4,000 calls a day, mostly from people with e-mail issues.
