They voted Wednesday night in favor of a 180 day moratorium on industrial wind farms by an overwhelming count of 111 to 20.
The company Competitive Energy Services is considering a ridge in Dixmont as a potential site for turbines.
Many people at the meeting said they’re not against the idea of wind power but given all of the potential effects of such a project they say it is reasonable to wait, and let everyone have a chance to get their questions answered.
":I’d like to know what’s in it for the town of dixmont.": Said Dixmont Resident Scott Fish. ":I’d like to know a little bit more about the people putting up these windmills. Who are their investors One of the questions I’d ask is would they be willing to show us whatever proposal they presented to their investors":
The nearby town of Jackson, along with other Maine towns, have approved similar moratoriums to slow down such projects.
