Turnpike Toll Increase

Updated 5 years ago

Motorists are digging a little deeper in

their pockets to drive on the Maine Turnpike.

Effective today, tolls go up on the 106-mile highway. Turnpike

officials say it’s the first toll increase since 2004.

The new toll rate will boost revenues by 23 percent, bringing in

an extra $20 million a year.

The steepest increases will be experienced by those paying cash

and motorists with EZPass registered in other states. Their rates

will go up 55 percent on average.

But Maine EZPass customers will see an increase of only 18

percent.

The cash toll to get on the highway at most interchanges rises

from 60 cents to $1.

The toll to drive the entire turnpike is now $5, up from $4.
