Motorists are digging a little deeper in
their pockets to drive on the Maine Turnpike.
Effective today, tolls go up on the 106-mile highway. Turnpike
officials say it’s the first toll increase since 2004.
The new toll rate will boost revenues by 23 percent, bringing in
an extra $20 million a year.
The steepest increases will be experienced by those paying cash
and motorists with EZPass registered in other states. Their rates
will go up 55 percent on average.
But Maine EZPass customers will see an increase of only 18
The cash toll to get on the highway at most interchanges rises
from 60 cents to $1.
The toll to drive the entire turnpike is now $5, up from $4.
