":When we deployed the first time, I sent out emails to all the reporters that I knew, asked them to cover our deployment on the long term…And oddly enough, the only reporter that replied and was consistent was Channel 5 and Jodi.":
JODI HERSEY WORKED AT OUR TELEVISION STATION DURING THE CHARLIE COMPANY’S FIRST TRIP OVERSEAS BACK IN 2004. THE REPORTER BEGAN CORRESPONDING WITH BRIAN ABOUT THE UNIT’S MISSION, RELAYING THE INFORMATION TO OUR VIEWERS.

WHEN THE GROUP GOT READY TO RETURN TO BANGOR, JODI WAS ASSIGNED TO COVER THE HOMECOMING FOR TV 5.
":As we were doing live shots for the unit, OK, they’re in Augusta, OK now they’ve just passed Pittsfield, I have family watching who were at home and they’re like, as it got closer and you kept doing live shots, your voice got higher and we could tell you were getting excited.":
THAT VERY NIGHT, BRIAN AND JODI HAD THEIR FIRST OFFICIAL DATE.
":She came over to see the 11 o’clock news and then we went to Dysarts for french fries and gravy.":
14 MONTHS LATER THE COUPLE OFFICIALLY BECAME MR. AMD MRS. VENEZIANO. SOON AFTER, BRIAN WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR OF THE UNIT.
IN JANUARY 2008, THE CHARLIE COMPANY OUT OF BANGOR HEADED BACK TO IRAQ, FOR THEIR SECOND TOUR OF DUTY.
FOR JODI, SWITCHING GEARS FROM JOURNALIST TO COMMANDER’S WIFE TOOK SOME TIME, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT CAME TO NEWS REPORTS ABOUT THE WAR.
":Worse for me because I’m a news junkie. And so I really did have to consciously turn the tv off.":
BOTH ADMIT IT WAS A BIT SURREAL WHEN THE UNIT CAME HOME THIS TIME. AFTER ALL, SO MANY THINGS HAD CHANGED. BUT THE COUPLE IS NOW ENJOYING THIS LATEST CHAPTER IN THEIR LOVE STORY.
