Big Changes Could be Coming to UMaine System

The chancellor of the University of Maine

system has unveiled a six-month process aimed at bringing about

what he describes as &quot:major transformative change.&quot:

Richard Pattenaude says incremental cost-cutting will not do

enough to bring costs into line with revenues in the coming years,

so he’s looking to more substantive options including taking

another look at the organization’s structure of the

seven-university system.

Pattenaude’s proposal would create a 12-member task force to

make recommendations regarding the future structure and function of

the University of Maine System.

He says he developed the proposal in consultation with the seven

university presidents. He briefed trustees at their meeting Sunday

at the University of Southern Maine.
