MAINE LAWMAKERS BACK TO WORK

THE NEW MAINE LEGISLATURE RETURNS TO WORK ON WEDNESDAY.

THE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE WILL GET A JUMP ON THAT, MEETING TOMORROW TO BEGIN HEARINGS ON A SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET.

THEIR GOAL

TO REWRITE THE BUDGET, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT A PROJECTED 150-MILLION DOLLAR SHORTFALL FROM NOW UNTIL SUMMER.

THE GOVERNOR WANTS THE 20-09 BUDGET FINALIZED BY NEXT MONTH SO LAWMAKERS CAN GET TO WORK ON A SUBSEQUENT BUDGET FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS.

THE STATE FACES AN 800-MILLION SHORTFALL IN THAT BUDGET.
