The rest are expected to be out of work within a month.
Company spokesperson Glenn Saucier says 125 workers are off the job now. He says another 83 are scheduled to be laid off for a total of208employees.
The mill officially closed in September and many have stayed on longer than expected to help close it up for the winter.
Officials from Brookfield Asset Management – which owns the mill – would like to install a biomass boiler there but are yet to figure out how to get that done.
It would cut the mill’s dependency on oil, making it affordable to keep open according to the owners.
