UMaine Hacker Arrested 

26-year-old James Wieland of Lewiston is charged with criminal invasion of computer privacy. Police say he hacked into as many as a thousand student e-mail accounts.

U Maine police began an investigation last month after getting a complaint about suspicious e-mail from a student.

Police say the hacking started in August of 2007.

Wieland is scheduled to appear in court in January.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
