Mount Desert Island residents gathered for a rally in Bar Harbor Sunday.
They wanted to address what they say is a rare hate crime in their community.
Two effigies, both painted black, were found hanging from trees the day after the Presidential election…there is speculation that the figures may have referenced President-elect Barack Obama.
Dan Lourie of Bar Harbor says he was horrified to hear of the incidents. He organized the rally so the community could address the issue.
Bar Harbor police Sergeant Shaun Farrar says they and state troopers are investigating who could have hung the figures.
They’re hoping someone with information will come forward. If caught, the perpetrator could be charged with a hate crime.
