The Lagrange manwas sentenced to 15 years in Penobscot County Superior Court, with three years suspended. He was charged with murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
According to court affidavits, Hart shot his wife, Kristen Smart-Hart, at their home while she was naked and hiding under the couple’s bed. Several people were at the house at the time, and one man told investigators the shooting occurred after Jeremy Hart walked in and caught him kissing Hart’s wife.
Hart maintained that he fired his weapon because he thought there was an intruder in the room.
