Stockton Springs Incident 

State Police say the man who walked into the school Friday morning is55 year old Randall Hofland. He’s been on the run since a traffic incident last Thursday night, after he pointed a gun at a Searsport police officer.

Hofland was tackled outside a fifth grade classroom by a State Trooper, who was one of the first police officers to arrive at the school. Hofland had been armed with a handgun and was holding 11 students hostage inside that classroom.

He had released all of the students and had given the gun to one of them before he was taken into custody.

He’s been taken to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.

There are no reports of injuries.

Stockton Springs, with a population of about 1,500, is a coastal town 10 miles northeast of Belfast.The elementary school, which serves the fifth grade through kindergarten, has about 80 students.
