Somerset County showcassed its new, $30,000,000 jail over the weekend.
Ceremonies include a ribbon cutting and flag raising at the dedication of the jail and sheriff’s department offices in Madison.
The building was openSaturday and Sundayfor public tours.
The new jail replaces the one in Skowhegan, which was built in the late 1800s and has a capacity of about 55 male prisoners.
The new jail can house a total of 250 men and women in separate units.
Inmates are expected to be moved to the new jail sometime in November.
