53 year old Michael Toby made his initial court appearance in Dover-Foxcroft Friday.
Detectives arrested Toby Thursday night around 11 o’clock at the Dover-Foxcroft police station, and charged with him with murder.
Police say the victim was Toby’s sister, 70 year old Rosalie Shedd, who had allowed her brother to stay with her.
According to an affidavit, Toby told police he got into a fight with his sister on Wednesday night, struck her repeatedly on the head, strangled her with a vacuum cleaner cord and put a plastic bag over her head.
Police say Shedd’s daughter found the body in her apartment on Aaron Avenue Thursday afternoon.
Toby is unemployed and has lived in the Dover-Foxcroft area since this summer: prior to that, he lived in Augusta.
Toby is being held behind bars at Piscataquis County Jail.
