HOLIDAY SHOPPING IN OCTOBER?

Updated 6 years ago

THAT SHOP TILL YOU DROP SEASON IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER… BUT HOW ARE THINGS LOOKING THIS SEASON… CONSIDERING THE ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN…..

SOME RETAILERS ARE ALREADY DROPPING PRICES TO GET PEOPLE IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT…..

IT’S ONLY OCTOBER, BUT MANY RETAILERS ARE ALREADY SLASHING PRICES AND BREAKING OUT THE HOLIDAY SALES.

&quot:I think that they are gonna see sales earlier. I think that retail is really gonna try to hit on the customer before Christmas and start marking things down sooner.&quot:

BUT BUSINESSES IN DOWNTOWN BANGOR DON’T SEEM TO BE SEEING THE SAME TROUBLED TIMES AS THE BIG RETAIL STORES.

&quot:This current market crunch, it’s not really affecting our little Main Street much. I don’t think we’re gonna have the big down turn that some of the cities may experience in Bangor, Maine.&quot:

SOME DOWNTOWN STORES SAY THEY’VE HAD A FEW CUT BACKS, BUT FOR MANY, IT’S BUSINESS AS USUAL.

&quot:The season has basically been pretty good&quot:

&quot:Sales have been fairly steady&quot:

REGIONAL AND LOCAL BUSINESSES SEEM TO AGREE…THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN THE HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON SO FAR, SEEMS TO BE TIMING…

&quot:You know we’ve had people who have started shopping early this season for Christmas. I think they’re spreading it out a bit this year because of the economy.&quot:

&quot:It’s gonna start earlier and people are gonna spread it out over a long period. More week by week, than cramming it in to three weeks.&quot:

ALTHOUGH CONSUMERS MAY BE SPREADING THEIR HOLDIDAY CHEER OVER A MUCH LONGER SHOPPING SEASON, SOME RETAILERS BELIEVE THIS YEAR, THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT MAY BE EVEN STONGER.

&quot:I think that this year without people traveling so much, that Christmas is even gonna be a little more important than it usually is for families.&quot:
