Bras Across Maine

BUT THIS YEAR…YOU CAN ADD PINK BRAS TO THE LIST…
&quot:Kiss 94 point 5, Maine’s best variety. OK, we’ve been talking a lot about bras on the air, but with good reason.&quot:
&quot:To get attention these days, you sometimes need to do something a little unusual.&quot:
AND…SAY MIKE AND MIKE, SOMETIMES THAT MEANS CREATING A SPECTACLE.
&quot:The original plan was to have our listeners donate hundreds of bras, and we were going to string them up and down the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge…And then, the Department of Transportation said we can’t. Something about a disturbance.&quot:
SO, THE TWO MIKES CAME UP WITH ANOTHER IDEA…HANG THE BRAS ALONG THE BANGOR WATERFRONT. THEY SAY THE CITY WAS ALL FOR IT.
&quot:And then we got a few complaints, people didn’t understand, I guess they thought we weren’t being serious about this. We are very serious about this. My mother died from breast cancer 11 years ago, so I take it very seriously.&quot:
THAT’S HOW THE MORNING RADIO SHOW PERSONALITIES CAME UP WITH THESE PINK, PAPER BRAS. MORE THAN A DOZEN STORES ARE SELLING THEM FOR A BUCK, AND ALL THE PROCEEDS BENEFIT CANCER RESEARCH.
THE MIKES SAY ABOUT SIX THOUSAND HAVE BEEN PURCHASED SO FAR…ANOTHER FOUR THOUSAND ARE ON ORDER.
&quot:BRAS ACROSS MAINE&quot: IS ALSO IN MEMORY OF SONYA BARCLAY, THE OLD TOWN WOMAN WHO LOST HER BATTLE WITH BREAST CANCER IN AUGUST.
&quot:Sonya actually heard about the bras across the bridge idea when she was still in the hospital. And she loved it. And so that’s why we wanted to do it. Because we told her that’s what we were going to do. And, it kind of broke our hearts that we had to shift gears, but we’re only going to hope that she is looking down on us and saying, keep it up, let’s do it.&quot:
THIS SUNDAY, A TEA WILL BE HELD IN OLD TOWN TO BENEFIT THE SONYA A BARCLAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND. IT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE OLD TOWN KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS HALL, STARTING AT 2 P-M. JANE’S CATERING WILL PROVIDE THE TEA AND CAKES. SONYA’S GIRLFRIENDS WILL SERVE AS HOSTESSES…AND THE OLD TOWN JAZZ BAND WILL PROVIDE THE ENTERTAINMENT.
ANYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND…ADMISSION IS A DONATION.
