IT’S HARD NOT TO DIVE INTO THE WORLD OF MAKE BELIEVE, WHEN ATTENDING THE SHOW, &quot:EVERYBODY LOVES PIRATES.&quot:

IN FACT, IT’S ALMOST DISHEATENING TO TAKE YOU BEHIND THE SCENES OF THIS PUPPET PRODUCTION…BUT WE MUST, IN ORDER TO SHOW YOU HOW IT ALL HAPPENS.

THE TORBECKS GREW UP IN PENNSYLVANIA, ON FROGTOWN MOUNTAIN…THUS THE NAME. THEY ALL GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE WITHIN A FEW YEARS OF EACH OTHER.

&quot:in a list of degrees, he’s a busines major, women’s studies, and I’m human ecology.&quot:

ERIK BECAME INTERESTED IN PUPPETRY AFTER TAKING A COLLEGE COURSE ON IT…SOON, ROBIN AND BRIAN WERE JOINING HIM DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS TO EARN SOME EXTRA CASH. ONCE SCHOOL WAS OVER, THE TRIO DECIDED TO MOVE TO BAR HARBOR.

&quot:we had these boxes of puppet stuff and a little stage in the corner of our apartment taking up all this room. So we thought, we’d better do something about it.&quot:

EIGHT YEARS LATER…FROGTOWN MOUNTAIN PUPPETEERS NOT ONLY TOURS AROUND MAINE, BUT THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES AND EVEN CANADA.

&quot:A lot of people do double takes when you tell them you’re a puppeteer, they’re like, ‘what’ Usually your hand goes up and you start being like, you know’&quot:

THE TORBECKS USE MOUTH AND ROD PUPPETS…AND MAKE ALL OF THEM BY HAND IN THEIR WORKSHOP IN BAR HARBOR.

&quot:we’ll do some rehearsals with just our hands in the air, to figure out who can be what characters.&quot:

AND WHEN IT COMES TO SIBLING RIVALRY, THE TORBECKS SAY THAT JUST DOESN’T EXIST HERE. THEY’RE TOO BUSY HAVING FUN.
