Firefighters Remembered

Governor John Baldacci directed that

U.S. and Maine flags be flown at half-staff Sunday in honor of

firefighters who died in the line of duty.

Federal law sets aside the first Sunday in October to remember

fallen firefighters across the country.

Saturday, the governor helped pay tribute at a ceremony at

Capital Park in Augusta.

The governor says firefighters put themselves in harm’s way

every day to protect the rest of us.
