Former Snowmobile Club Official Charged With Theft

The former treasurer of Maine’s

second-largest snowmobile club faces charges for allegedly stealing

up to $54,000 from the club.

Rangeley police say 61-year-old Gail Gavigan of Dallas

Plantation was charged with theft by unauthorized taking and theft

by receiving stolen property in connection with unauthorized use of

funds from the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club. Gavigan resigned her

position earlier this year.

Police Chief Dennis Leahy said club members paid for an audit of

the books over the past three years after discovering checks were

being written to accounts that didn’t have anything to do with the

club.

The club has 430 members and grooms 150 miles of trails in the

western mountains region.
