Two Maine Maritime Academy students are dead after a car crash in Stockton Springs.
It happened at 7:30am Sunday on Route One, near the Muskrat Farm Road intersection.
The victims are identified as 20-year-old Richard Coakley of Mt. Vernon and 21-year-old Matthew Felton of Merrimack, New Hampshire.
According to police, Coakley was driving at the time of the crash…the men were said to be returning to school at the time.
Both were killed instantly.
The driver of the other vehicle…53-year old Andrew Bradford of Kennebunk…suffered multiple injuries and is being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Bradford is an MMA alumnus and was driving home after attending an event at the school Saturday night.
Police say Bradford’s pickup truck crossed the center line and struck the car carrying the students.
Traffic was reduced to one lane around the crash site for six hours as police investigated the crash.
According to police, blood alcohol tests were administered on both drivers to determine if drinking was a factor.
No word yet on any charges…police say once their report is completed, it will be forwarded to the district attorney.
