The hurricane watch for Maine has been discontinued, but a tropical strom warning remains in effect as Hurricane Kyle blows past the coast on a track for Canada’s Maritime Provinces.
Flood watches are in effect for southern New Hampshire and southern Maine as the region gets a third straight day of rain.
Some coast areas have received as much as 5 and a-half inches already.
Kyle has top winds of nearly 80 miles per hour, with hurricane-force winds extending up to 70 miles from its center. The Canadian Hurricane Centre issued a hurricane warning for parts of southwestern Nova Scotia, with tropical storm warnings for parts of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Emergency officials in New Brunswick are concerned that people living inland may not be taking the storm warnings seriously enough. They note that the storm is hundreds of miles wide and could affect a large area.
