Auction Brings in Big Money

A 1910 Mercedes 4-seat Tourabout sold for $887,000 and a 1913 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost sold for $832,000 during a two-day auction of vintage cars, motorcycles and automobile memorabilia and accessories.

During the auction on Friday and Saturday, an estimated 500 people along with telephone bidders from around the world bought dozens of vehicles that were part of the collection of the late Richard Paine Jr., an avid car collector from Seal Cove, Maine, who died last year.

Auction proceeds went to an endowment for the Seal Cove Auto Museum, which Paine founded and which houses his core collection.

The 1910 Mercedes and the 1913 Rolls-Royce were the top-priced items, with another half-dozen cars sold for more than $250,000 each.
