Maine Apple Sunday

Maine Apple Sunday was celebrated held at orchards across the state Sunday to promote the state’s apple harvest.

According to the Maine State Pomological Society, 16 orchards in southern, western and central Maine participated in the annual event by opening their doors to visitors and offering special events and refreshments such as cider and apple crisp.

Apple picking in Maine begins near the end of August and continues until the last of the fruit comes off the trees at the end of October.

Maine has dozens of growers who harvest more than $10 million worth of apples each year.
