Bangor’s planning board OK’d a plan to build a new parking garage on the State St. campus.
The plan calls for a four-story garage that would add about 650 parking spaces next to the current garage.
The hospital had planned to tear down two nearby homes to create parking, but came up with this plan after citizens voiced concerns.
Jeff Mylan, the Director of Construction Services at EMMC, says the project still needs approval from the full city council and the DEP to move forward.
The DEP wants to make sure the project doesn’t harm the environment in any way.
Mylan says the hospital has addressed those concerns, and hopes to win DEP approval in the near future.
The $16,000,000 project should be completed next spring.
