The money made from the adopt plate would go to the state animal welfare program.

Supporters say it’s a good way to help support the animal welfare program, without putting the burden on Maine taxpayers.
Organizers need 2,000 people to sign up for the plates and pay the $25 fee by September 1. They currently have 1500 people signed up.
Then the legislature would consider the proposal in January.
